“It’s gotta be-a...an overpriced Kia!”
I still own my 20 year old Celica GT-S. At 377,000 miles, oil changes and brake fluid are the one thing I have done religiously. Otherwise, I’ve been pretty hands off, a minor fluid change here or there. I honestly think I’ve never even had to change the rear turn signal bulbs. This car is freaking bulletproof and…
I’ll admit to being a bit surprised that Highlanders have been on the market that long.
Similar deal with my 2010 Pilot, now at 237k (bought used at around 80k). I’m diligent but not obsessive about basic maintenance, and...that’s all. It’s not just still running. It feels quite solid. There could be some catastrophic failure just around the corner, but it would be a surprise at this point.
That the term of vague to the point of meaninglessness is precisely the point.
Hers was a 2007 sport. She got rid of it at 210k miles, and her parents drove it for another 10-20k more.
100% agreed, and for many of the same reasons why losing the Element was a travesty.
Just wait a year and say “Honda Fit”.
Great article!
You can get it with the 5.7 V8 which makes it great. Yes the interior sucks bad.
I’ve actually been coming around to the Jeep Commander lately. The interior sucks, and I’m no fan of IFS, but I can dig it.
You can question a lot of car buying decisions. Who leases a car for $729 a month with $8,519 due at signing (I’m looking at you Maserati Levante Jalopnik ad)? Who takes a 6-8 year loan out on a car?
I think people are starting to build wildly expensive electric service vehicles in the hopes that Dubai or some other petrostate will order a fleet and they can retire.
“It would also eliminate demand for diesel, in turn keeping firefighters from cancer causing fumes.”
Exactly my concern and desires. The people who want the Jimny don’t want a smaller Renegade. We want a solid axle, removable top, mini-Wrangler at a reasonable price. That’s not what they’re going to build.
It might show up in concept form as a solid axle Jimney rival, but it won’t go to production that way. It’s going to be a mini Renegade available in FWD.
Have to get there first. Here, my off-road place is 194 miles up the highway, and then about 35 miles of trail. :(
I feel like off-roaders are the one car segment where an electric powertrain doesn’t make sense. There aren’t exactly recharging stations out on the trails, and solar panels will only get you a couple miles extra range per day whereas the fuel in a jerry-can will take you a hundred miles.
As far as Automobile is concerned, I remember when it first came out. I read it a few times, but came to the conclusion that it was kinda like R&T and C&D, just not as good. Maybe better than Motor Trend, but not by much....
Automobile Magazine was a favorite of mine. When Jean Jennings was at the helm, it was a tremendous publication that I preferred to C&D or Motor Trend. This year has been awful for journalism period.
