The normal 4A (Torque-On-Demand) transfer case in the Lariat-up F-150 doesn’t have a mechanical lock, it just applies full pressure to the electromagnetic clutch for an effective lockup. Some highly-tuned EcoBoost trucks are able to push through that clutch in the first couple of gears on grippy pavement, so it does

I actually did overheat my Baby Duramax’s Zr2 Colorado’s central diff in the dunes. I ended up using a whole lot of rear wheel spin and my rear locker to get moving again after digging myself out, it was a pain in the arse!

why would they put this tcase in a ZR2? You’re 100% right - this is the wrong application for “automatic AWD.”

I love it, but I can’t get past the clutch-based transfer-case. I understand these modern trucks have systems in place to prevent damage, but losing 4wd in the middle of a difficult obstacle is annoying at best, unsafe at worst.

Thing is, this business should have been a total no-brainer money-maker. The used car market is ripe for a major roll-up. They could have been Carmax with much lower overhead (no need for large retail shops and lots of sales staff). The whole notion of buying and financing your car hassle-free online, getting it

They aren’t literally on freeway cleanup. They sit behind Caltrans workers and vehicles while they cleanup the freeway.

iTs nOt AwD!”

I wasn’t counting anything more than the drive units, inverters, gearboxes, etc- just the drivelines specifically. Also, the diesel engine weight I reference includes the huuuge transmissions in those trucks. I should have been more descriptive.

Yup! It’s honestly a pretty cool comeback story. That notorious downhill promo was over three years ago, the founder who was recently found guilty of fraud was ousted over two years ago and hasn’t had any involvement with the company since, the SEC has closed their probe into the company, and the product they’re

Wasn’t Nikola the one whose promo video showed an unpowered mockup coasting down a hill and got investigated by the SEC? Or did I confuse them with another BEV vaporware company?

Nikola has been delivering 300+ mi BEV trucks to customers for a few months. They’ve built a little over 100 so far, delivering to dealers, with several different major pilot deployments with drayage fleets. They have alpha versions of their 500+mi FCEV in testing deployments right now, and recently unveiled the

Hi! Automotive engineer here! Seeing lots of folks debate about how much heavier this thing will be versus a diesel truck. For starters, keep in mind that they make it clear this is a day-cab. Day-cabs tend to weigh between 10k and 20k pounds with fuel, no trailer.

I think they should have waited for the literal optimal conditions. I know the MR GT2RS isn’t stock, but 8 seconds faster doesn’t seem like that much for a car that is probably 6x more expensive and has a literal F1 engine in it.

I don’t think Kyle is saying the sound of a car doesn’t matter. I think he’s saying that this one sounds different than the original engine doesn’t matter.

It’s much harder to fleece people with the truth.

Would he even be Elon then?

The part of this I’ve never understood, was why hasn’t Musk from the beginning simply said, “As we work to eventually bring a true hands-free driving experience, we’ll continue to offer the most advanced automated features of any car maker”.

How difficult would that be to say?

Oooohhhh, awkward.

Could have gotten more creative with the headline.

Damn, this is fucked up. Everyone involved, from the guards who first injured him, to the ones who ignored him, to the doctors that “examined” him, need to face charges over this and lose whatever licenses they have for life.
