Per this article, weight is very much a consideration by the IRS when determining if the vehicle is an SUV. This article doesn’t mention anything about seating capacity or weight as to why the three row qualifies. 

So Model Y’s with three rows weigh 1600lbs more? Why no mention of seating capacity as it pertains to the rules. 

So how does this affect someone who leases an EV, obtains the tax credit and then purchases it at the end of their lease agreement? I can see OEMs using enticing lease deals as a way to get around the consumer tax credit.

Dang I had no idea this was the case with the GM 4auto transfer case. I have a regular t-case in my F-150, but upper trims also have 4A so are they designed differently and do they actually lock when switched from auto to 4Hi/Lo? What about Ram?
