I used to get bent out of shape that BMW - despite being competitive with Porsche on the race track - would never quite make an M3 that was a real rival to the 911 GT3.

Yeah, that FEM bit IS true. The car does have a couple of spots that need reinforcement either for track duty or to stave off old age, though I wouldn’t have called it “fragile.”

An E36 M3 is literally the most perfect car for this challenge. I’ve been pretty busy at work the last couple weeks and am just catching up, but I can’t believe how far down I had to scroll to see this answer.

An E36 M3 would wipe the floor with everything but a C5 Vette or a 911 from that era. And the 911 won’t be under $10k.

E36 M3s are cheaper than an E30 325. This is kind of a no-brainer to me.
