It wasn’t that long ago that it was impossible if not very hard for women to go to medical school, so most medical fields have long been dominated by men and probably doesn’t seem strange at all within the field. Outside of the field though, it does feel a little skeevy.

There’s honestly nothing to worry about. The bulk of the people complaining about it usually have the same root cause, whether they realize it or not — they don’t understand the reasons why math is taught in a different way, they feel that the world is changing, they’re afraid they can’t help their kids with math, etc.

Needing to have chores assigned is a big issue to me. I just... clean things when they get dirty (overwhelmingly dirty lately, but that’s life sometimes.) My boyfriend wants me to tell him which task to do. If he does offer to wash the dishes while I clean another room, it turns into me having to tell him where

As a new parent, this comment thread is making me a lot less worried about dealing with Common Core math down the road.

Good riddance. Also, I’m about to sneeze just thinking of shag carpets and pets! (I have “scratching post” carpets cos they’re low maintenance.)

He literally did SHIT all day, I mean nothing except get up at noon or later and fuck around until I got home then cook dinner (nothing fancy but he would cook dinner as long as I told him what to

Agree 100%. Daniel Tiger jingles were in rotation in our house for years... “when you feel so mad that you wanna roar...”

“ How people view messiness and cleanliness is also gendered, with women penalized for not being clean.”

You also have to remember that the real advantage of touch typing isn’t necessarily speed. It’s being able to type while looking at the screen, not the keyboard (easier to catch mistakes as you make them).

I’ve watched literally hundreds of hours of Little Baby Bum with my three boys (5,3.5,2). It has a bizarre hypnotic effect on them. I’ll take it over Blippi any day.

It was less than a lifetime ago that Alan Turing was chemically castrated for being gay. The punishment was cruel and unusual then (not to mention the fact that he was being punished for something positive, rather than something bad like being a pedophile), and it’s cruel and unusual now.

It is astonishing how much of this I recognized solely from listening to Jolie Kerr’s podcast. I feel like she could have consulted for this article.

You have to clean the kitty box before you vacuum, or at least I do.  Because that asshole gets in it and kicks litter around as soon as I’ve cleaned it.

“Sometimes it’s hard to tell if they are protecting or discriminating against someone,” he said

We had full size mechanical office typewriters with blank keys.

High school typing class with typewriters and these flat cardboard books that would stand next to the typewriter and give us drills to follow. Two spaces after the period, how many lines to put between parts of a memo, all that good stuff. The typing class teacher also was the advisor for FBLA at my school and she

Junior High typing class.

Is it “ironic” or just “pathetic” that these people spend so much time strategizing on forcing their beliefs on others, they can’t have much time left over for doing what Jesus actually said to do, e.g., be nice and shit?
