I don’t know where the other posters live, but our school district only provides free or reduced lunch based on income level and you have to apply in advance for it. Otherwise got lunch is $2/day.

slightly off-topic but still relevant, the new lids for cold drinks basically make a sippy cup, so the smallest size is perfect for small children if you want to get them a water (free) or a milk. Get it with ice because it will help prevent all the sloshing. Or get it in a hot drink cup and the opening is still like…
I’m not exactly konmari level, but with two little ones I have to sort through toys, books, clothes, shoes on a quarterly basis if not sooner. I usually save up the discarded items and then post massive grab bags on Facebook marketplace and they are gone by the end of the weekend.
If you want to make a little money, post it in Facebook marketplace, OfferUp, letgo, or a combination of the three. I also have good luck posting in Facebook buy/sell groups on top of marketplace. If you just want it gone, then join a Facebook buy nothing group and list it for free. Won't last long. Craigslist doesn't…
There are many fewer left turn lights on LA city streets than there should be. The general consensus is to allow three cars to turn left on the yellow/red. This will only work if the first left turner will declare their intersection.
Also, if travelling between Los Angeles and San Diego, prepare for the 5 to suck, especially around Oceanside and Del Mar. We blame the fair and the racetrack, but it’s really just all the time.
Took my 4.5 year old for the school-required health assessment and they were willing to give her a flu shot today. I wasn’t expecting she could get it in August but the signs were up everywhere and we saw them at CVS this morning too.
Yep, that’s not nearly enough money to move back to Butler County. If you need any further info, just check out the State Representative Candice Keller (the one who blamed transsexuals and gay marriage and Colin Kaepernick for the Dayton and El Paso mass shootings) and Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones who likes to…
If only they hadn’t stopped making them in 2015 I would probably have one now. Instead I went with the Odyssey. It’s a lot bigger but I preferred it to the Kia or Toyota and sliding doors make life with a toddler and a preschooler bearable. Plus, everything fit for a camping trip with room to spare and I can seat…
Starbucks Via packets actually make some decent coffee. I have it daily at home with breakfast and the whole extended family partakes when we go camping.

Personally, I think I’d go with the simple G&T, but nobody voted for a Pan Galactic Gargleblaster?
My mom has asthma and scents also triggered her migraines. She had a rule in her classroom about no strong perfumes so of course a hateful teenager would douse themself in AXE body spray once a year and send her home to a breathing treatment.
FYI, most Americorps and Peace Corps positions require a college degree or work experience. Volunteering with a local group and working are still great options for a gap year if your parents are willing to continue housing you.
Steak ‘n Shake was my first real job (I worked at a Friendly’s for a month before they decided to close all of them in the greater Cincinnati area so that barely counts). They were the only place that would hire servers under age 18 and it was still all cash back then. We had smoking and non-smoking areas and smokers…
I snap with my ring finger too. Do you have small hands? I have the hands of a child.
I can’t roll my tongue (like a taco) and I also can’t roll my r’s. I can whistle which was probably improved by learning to play the flute, but I can’t do it with my fingers in my mouth.
This should have been at the top of their list. Mine are 22 months apart and we’re paying $1500/month which is only slightly less than our mortgage. The eldest starts TK in the fall but it’s only 2.5 hours per day so I’m guessing our costs will remain the same. I’m just lucky we got her into an elementary that’s in…
Were you able to use cloth diapers in a daycare setting? That was our major problem so I only cloth diapered while they kids were home with me during my maternity leave. At least I was able to provide a few months and the re-sale market for diapers is pretty good so we mostly started with used and sold again.
The kicker is that the FAFSA is much easier to do now. It doesn’t use the most recent year’s info anymore so you don’t have to coerce your parents into filing early and almost everything pre-fills with the info from the IRS when you put in everybody’s SSN.
I know I didn’t qualify for Pell Grants despite my mother’s low middle America school teacher income. I asked my husband if he had qualified (eldest of four kids, delivery truck driver dad was the sold income) and he couldn’t remember which means he probably didn’t. Almost no one will qualify for forgiveness under her…
