I made a number of business trips to NL in the mid 1990s; ‘direct’ is pretty much how I found your countrymen. And I liked it...no bullshit, no silliness. I knew where they stood.

I have quite a bit of contact with Dutch people for my job and one of my favs is the signature some of them have on their e-mails “I hope I have informed you sufficiently”. I always read it like “Yeah, do you get it now? Now go away”.

I work with both Dutch and Middle Eastern customers, so I get exposed to complete opposite ends of the communication spectrum, direct and curt, and indirect and deferential.

I loved visiting your country, but the Dutch are the most admonitory nation on earth. I was  scolded several times, mostly deservedly...

Yeah, that’s about right. The Dutch tend to be polite, if at times brutally honest. However, when we notice that politeness isn’t returned...Well...like you said we have a low tollerance for bullshit.
