Or the court reporter. I once had to stop my opponent from having a privileged conversation in front of me because he assumed I was the court reporter, and he was then mad at me for his wrong assumption.

Butthat

Dudes suck at math.

Ugh, as a longtime vegetarian I've dealt with the meat sneakers. I've found a great technique for curbing this behavior is to wait until they've gone back to eating and earnestly talk about how people's bodies produce different amounts of digestive enzymes based on diet. If you don't eat meat for a long time, you

I know! For people who are always going on about intersectional feminism, they're not really connecting the dots. It didn't take me long to figure out that most oppression and abuse is connected in a patriarchal/classist/racist etc world that's geared towards the people in charge. My pet theory is that it's about

I'm so confused by this blog. Most people on here seem open minded, intelligent and compassionate to all causes. Yet when (livestock) animal abuse is mentioned it's all "lol stupid vegans" and "mmm bacon"..

Do you seriously use intelligence as a measure of whether someone matters?

Here's the thing though: Human beings have been killing, raping and torturing each other for thousands of years. Therefore it's not wrong, it's just a choice. If you choose not to do these things, good for you, but don't disparage or interfere with those who do.

So true. I choose to be vegan but try my best not to make it into a big deal that needs to be brought up every time I have a meal (but good luck not sticking out like a freak in our meat-saturated culture). I don't tell other people what they should do, and only explain my ethical choices if I'm asked directly about

No, it's a comparison of activists to activists (all of whom are people). But more precisely its a comparison of the large number of white people in the 50s and 60s who claimed sympathy with civil rights goals but criticized movement methods as too disruptive, with the large number of meat-eaters today who claim

"You don't even have to like animals to know that skinning and dismembering an animal that is still conscious is unequivocally wrong".

The classism argument is bullshit. Sure, you can be a veggie / vegan in an expensive way, eating nothing but Quinoa and expensive processed fake meats. But you know what is vegan and dirt cheap? Rice and beans. Animal derived products often cost more than vegetable-based ones, as they should. It's why some products

It's so weird to me that environmental concerns are now a far more socially acceptable reason than ethical concerns to reduce or eliminate meat consumption. I think it's probably because organizations like PETA are so overly focused on the animal welfare aspects that those ideas have become associated with extremist

I don't care to get into a debate here but would just like to say that there are tons of black and latino vegans and vegetarians all over the world especially in the US. There are tons of black vegan restaurants deep in Brooklyn (like in Flatbush) or in Harlem and the Bronx. Visit these places. They're run by

I completely agree with you, not totally with C.A. who is splitting the difference between these groups. There is a shit tonne of real estate between advocating for folks to eat meat more mindfully and maybe not make it the center of every meal so our planet remains habitable, and "wander[ing] into a restaurant

I feel terrible for those meat-eater people because there is nowhere else in NYC to get a meat-based meal.

Veganism is not an "entry-level eating disorder" and it's offensive to call it that. It can serve as a decent cover for people who have or are developing an eating disorder, but veganism itself is an extremely healthy choice for most people. Just like being an omnivore, you can eat in a healthy, or an unhealthy way.

She definitely has a point but I reallyyyyyy hope that description does not spread. Eating a healthy vegan diet can take a lot of thought and effort although I think it gets easier the longer you do it. I have major anxiety sometimes about making sure I'm eating enough and that I'm going to be able to eat where I'm
