"EXTREMELY NSFW PIC"
Aww, color me disappointed. The write-up had me in tears, but then we don't actually get to see Baby Fart Aerobics!! My favorite (and a game we played with my son countless times….):
Thanks, for your thoughtful reply. I also have many friends who hunt, or are foodies, or otherwise are oblivious to how their numerous posts about animal flesh would make me feel, and THAT'S FINE. I am used to it. BUT then when those same people rant about how I am somehow shoving my beliefs down their throats,…
This, this, this! I'm a vegetarian in the south, with many friends who hunt. I understand that it's their choice, and I don't complain when they post pictures to facebook of them proudly holding their baby next to a deer with a slit throat. Then I see them post another picture mocking a vegetarian's "hunt" with a sad…
Yeah, I don't know where that "smug" bit comes from. I'm hardly smug from being teased by my friends, having my mother AND mother-in-law ask me (for 14 years running) "are you still not eating meat?" and having, if I'm luck, 1 entree option in a nice restaurant, that is usually a really creative variation on…
Kinja won't let me star this so I have to comment to say I agree with you. If meat is so great, why is almost every food commercial for it? Why is meat a constant dog whistle for masculinity?
Thanks for this post. People are off their rockers if they think there is no such thing as "meat culture". I'm not even a vegetarian and I know it exists. How?
Thank you. THANK YOU! i really wish meat eaters would stop trying to make veggie's feel bad for our choices. I have never once tried to convince a meat eater to give up but I am challenged on a daily basis by friends and colleagues trying to get me to eat meat or admit how much I 'miss it.' Meat eaters are the worst.
Every word you posted is so true. I'm not a vegetarian but most of my family and close friends are and I find them far less obtrusive, annoying and offensive than the 'baaaaaacon' crowd.
I am not personally a vegetarian, though for a couple years I was vegan. My brother was battling cancer, and being a raw vegan extended his life for 2 years past what his western doctors gave him, and we had all joined his veganism in support. I'm with you in your argument. Vegetarians are no more smug than the smug…
Lord do I hear this. I can't count the number of times I've been around new people who will, with no known vegetarian present, start in on "what is their problem? Why don't they just eat all teh meatz?" or "plants are what food eats". Then I remain silent. Because what the fuck am I going to say that will result in…
It's really sad that people think this is a joke. I've heard so many people complain about vegetarians/vegans making their views heard in a way that others find smug or overbearing, but truthfully, we deal with flesh-eating in a way that can be completely overwhelming without a proper guard up.
Actually, if you take vegetarianism as an ethical stance and truly have a revulsion to the eating of animal flesh, I don't think the whole indictment of "meat culture" comes off as that ridiculous — it's just that mainstream culture has so normalized it that the criticism seems weird. I also think vegetarians (and…
I know kids can be assholes, but whatever kid said that crap about her grandfather is fucking evil.
Obviously the truck driver is a greater asshole for tailgating, but let's not forget that once she passed the trucks on the right, she should have moved over. That is the law in some areas, and common courtesy everywhere else.
I just stopped by to comment that I think you and I could be a fantastic crime fighting duo. Let me know.
