With win7 you can do a lot from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings (and you can use task scheduler to change what mode you're using in an automated fashion). That said, it would be a lot less of a headache to get a NAS to both serve media and act as storage for your gaming rig (and

If only OneBusAway updated for CommTrans and SoundTransit, and not just Metro... /sigh

I'm gonna have to say 'go with sed', as noted below. :)

I am not in front of my Mac right now, but I'm trying to figure out how that chown is going to clear a cache (not to mention wondering how "/" would come to be owned by someone other than root)....

Exercise as soon as you get up. After a week or two, your body will realize that it's going to have to start doing some work 'soon' and wake up for you right before you would have started exercising. The trick with this is that you have to find a way to get up at the same time for those first 2 weeks... ;-)

It's super easy to get started with java, bash, or perl. Bash and perl will already be installed by default in OS X, and java is easy to download (and free). Gcc (C/C++) is doable, too. All have plenty of good online tutorials, and good O'Reilly books.

For a pretty good compromise earbud-style headphone that won't fall out of your head (like the rest do to me), check out Sennheiser PMX 680 (or 680i if you need it to have a mic for your phone). Highly water-resistant, better sound than they deserve to have, and won't break the bank like some higher-end Ety's will.

My current book, plus a few playlists that I only bust out when I'm going to be traveling for a long period of time all at once (usually one of them will be movie scores).

I agree with Rahshaka — Roast beef sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, and burgers are the only place where I will put mayo, and then it's just enough for the protection it affords from juicy meat. That's what it's for - you shouldn't have so much of it that you really notice it (unless you don't season your

Yet another reason why, when buying a car, they talk about 'extended warranties' and 'financing options' at the very end of sealing the deal - after you've just made a couple hundred other decisions. Save your pocketbook by planning ahead for how you plan to finance, deciding if you have any use for an extended

That's supposed to be one of the major "selling points" of getting your genes mapped. Also (albeit slightly less important), you can figure out if you're just a picky eater and don't want broccoli, or if your genetics have determined that broccoli really will always taste like hot freshly-poured asphalt to you.

12:00 PDT 'tonight' is noon, or at least that's how I read it. 23:59 PDT or 11:59pm PDT "tonight" is a more accurate time (12:00am PDT tomorrow is technically also correct, but a little confusing). If you're not including "AM" or "PM" in your description (12pm=noon, 12am=midnight), using 24-hour time is the only way

Any feature is a bug unless you can turn it off.

I try to fill up when I'm at 1/8 of a tank, so that if I see a tanker truck at a gas station, I just leave and come back next day. Not worth the sediment and goo that gets all mixed around during/post refilling.

What I did should be considered a case study, not generalized research - although spot checking from time to time showed that Chevron gas (I didn't always go to the same one) kept my IAM at its maximum value. I did not visit other Arco/Exxon/Shell stations after the first time at each of them gave me crummy gas. =P

After datalogging my previous car (which required premium gas) on several different brands of gas, I found that Arco, Exxon, and Shell gas all resulted in my Ignition Advance Multiplier getting lowered. 76, Chevron, and Texaco kept my IAM at the desired levels. So even if it came from the same distribution center,

It helps to have a county commissioner with your same name who had some amount of press because he (a) narrowly defeated a recall, and (b) blogged about it.

Pretty sure it's been an option since the mid-90s (like Photoshop 3... way before CS3).
