For softening flashes, if you find you need to but you don't have any of the standard makeshift means of doing so, the easiest way I've found is to hold/tape/etc a receipt in front of the flash. It will still let through plenty of light, but it will take the edge off - perfect for when you are trying to take a

Yes. A just-bigger-than-a-hackeysack beanbag works pretty well in a pinch, too (you can even get them with camera mounts on them, if you want).

Hitting about 5 keys (since I use QuickSilver) is way faster for me than even just moving the mouse to the upper-left corner of my desktop, but I learned how to touch type in the 3rd grade, so ymmv I guess. :)

How did honey not make the list? That's what I use, and it works great. You only need to use about 80% as much of it as sugar (the other 20% is basically water, so leave out a little bit of water if using it to bake with).

5) They're fixing the avatar uploader?

Anything from MxPx is just about guaranteed to wake you up, as long as your volume isn't set to zero. Van Halen is another pretty good choice.

If you know the name of a file but not the package, and you have a system that uses yum (e.g. Fedora, RHEL, Scientific Linux, CentOS, if you've rigged your Ubuntu install to use yum, etc...), you can just type

To take pictures of the moon:

Sennheiser PMX680 (or 680i if you want a microphone) may fit your bill. I tried Shures, which hurt my ears (but sounded great), and earbuds always just fell out, but the Senns fit really nicely, and are comfortable even when wearing glasses or while working out (they're sweat/water-resistant).

No CF version available? le sigh...

Snacking is good for you, not bad (unless you only eat unhealthy foods for snacks) — it keeps your metabolism up, and helps you avoid binge-eating at your '3 square meals'.

Sprint offers true unlimited data because they have way more bandwidth than they know what to do with (since the mass exodus of customers a couple of years ago). If their tubes were getting clogged, they'd make people pay until there was just enough room to make them usable again, just like V and A.

This post might have reminded me of [xkcd.com]

I prefer those heavy, wool army blankets. Useful for if you get stranded and the (mountain) pass is closed and the motels are full, and there isn't much to look at. The only people that might look twice at your car are cops (to see if there's a body under the blanket)....

FWIW, xBox 360 slim includes built-in wifi.

You can always get the 4gb 360 slim and then if you want to play Halo Reach or decide that you need more storage, you can buy the HD as a $100 add-on accessory. Keep in mind that accessories only have a 90-day warranty.

All great advice. :) Also, a good resource for hardware drivers (you probably already knew this, but I'm sure some other folks don't) is elrepo.org.

At works great on my Mac at home. In related news, cron is awesome as an alarm clock - waking up to a different playlist each day of the week. You don't even have to remember to turn your alarm off on weekends.
