Actually, anything other than paper and metal is fucking dumb to recycle. It requires more energy to recycle plastic (and therefore outputs more carbon and probably uses more fossil fuels) than to make new plastic; same for glass, which is derived from sand so not exactly in short supply.

“It’s called electrical tape, because it conducts electricity”

His “recharging batteries” video is probably the best piece he’s ever done. It’s so wildly implausible that it actually seems like it might actually work.

One thing to take into account is what could be your growth if you invested the lump sum after taxes.  Assuming you take the lump sum and get 388M, if you invest this money and only received a 2% annual rate of return, you would easily exceed what you would get if you did the 30 year annuity: 702M vs. 688M.  Even

My favorite “trick,” is to use negative reviews to look for attributes I personally find positive. This works really well with tech. If people start complaining about something being “too complicated,” or “not easy to use,” that’s a major positive, because as soon as I’m past the nasty learning curve, I’ll have access

Guessing this will be done through a terms of service popup that no one will read which is why lawsuits will definitely happen when a trump supporting grandma finds her portrait used by a condom brand.

You joke, but I’m pretty sure I have a myspace account still.

I recall a similar story on Jalopnik in 1892 when a steam powered car crashed and blew up and painfully scolded dozens, then again in 1912 when a gas powered car blew up in a giant fireball after hitting a mule team and diving off the road. And here we are in 2016 watching a video of super dense batteries exploding. I

It’s a great experience. The trains from Chicago to LA or SF have some amazing views that you can get in a plane (natch) or a car.

I wouldn’t say it is dumb. You need to adjust your expectations WAY WAY down. Taking the train cross country here needs to be considered part of your trip, instead of transportation to the start/end of your trip.

This guy did and blogged about it. Some really beautiful photos too.

no- did it from SF to NY. 10/10 would do it again

And hook up the power to the house as best we can.

Yes, but only currently.

Electricity became a ‘thing’ before globalization did. Everyone developed their own system and, at this point, is too entrenched to change. That’s similar to the reason that some places use 110 V AC @ 60 Hz while others use 220 V AC @ 50 Hz for mains power. I do wonder what circuit breaker amperage limits are common

Also seriously who uses the phone anymore

I’d go back and read that entire section, and perhaps check out the linked post in that section.
