That is why you can find plenty of 1st gen "new" Minis with low mileage for a decent price. People bought them for looks, drove them for a year and decided it wasn't a good fit. Their loss our gain :)

When I bought my Cooper S in '04 the S models were only available with a manual trans. Of course all that changed 05 and onward, they also softened up the stock suspension for the next gen, because "folks complained about a stiff ride." Uh, you bought a Mini Cooper what were you expecting.
