Okay, first of all, American isn’t an ethnicity, it’s a nationality. Nations act on the world in a pretty organized way, and ethnic groups do not. I think that’s a distinction you yourself have been trying to make here.

But it’s not discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. They’re not denying this guy business because he’s gay. They’re denying him business because he asked them to write a message specifically pertaining to national policy, with which they disagreed. If he asked for a chocolate cake with red roses on it or

Okay, all of that is legitimate, but I still maintain the basic point that it’s possible (or at the very least worth trying) to distinguish between identity and behavior when we discriminate. Some people want to boycott Jews and Jewish things, and some people want to boycott Israeli goods because they oppose the

Chimpanzees commit rape and genocide no lie

It kinda sounds like Griner might not have consented to this pregnancy, though. I dunno, the whole thing is a damn mess (like everyone else is saying).

So I was having a lil debate with my dad about something similar - one of the Dakotas or maybe one of the Carolinas (mannnnn...) just made it illegal for businesses to boycott countries on the basis of race or religion - specifically to stop people from boycotting Israeli goods. I was arguing that you can boycott

Okay, thanks for bringing this up. I haven’t read up on the WBC in a while and it’s too late on an otherwise good night for me to make myself do it now, but as far as I remember, they’re allowed to “picket funerals” but only a certain legally ordained distance away (and it’s pretty far afaik) from the funeral itself.

I agree with that 100%, and I don’t think I agree with Patrick Stewart in this particular case. But I am a Freeze Peach stickler in general and I sympathize with him because I often find myself making these kinds of decisions.

Nuance is good. I think the fight for human rights and equality on all axes shouldn’t be compromised, but I also think it’s really important to acknowledge that even with that basic value there’s more than one way of approaching policy as well as specific issues.

Be Nice To Children will be the first law enacted in my dictatorship. V important stuff. In totally unrelated news, I think I have something in my eye...

My pediatrician’s first name is Promise. We should get Dr Promise and Dr Happy together some time.

THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAD IN GRAD SCHOOL
He had an Indian professor who kept talking about “double-upment” and he went nuts trying to do research on this obviously really important piece of jargon which he’d never heard of before. I mean, hours of library time, and he was so embarrassed and confused about just having no

I think she is asking people to make negative judgements about her either never or after having watched the video, but not before.

EVERY WORD OF THIS

True Story sometimes when my boyfriend is being hugely annoying and illogical in an argument I get so exasperated I accidentally call him by my baby brother’s nickname.

Also, like, it’s a body part. Just because it’s a replaceable body part doesn’t mean all our other standards of consent and bodily autonomy suddenly don’t apply :/

Suicidal thoughts are by definition a mental health problem though. Her mind got sick. Not everyone who stands in the rain catches cold, but if the person you locked out in the rain does catch cold then their illness is your fault.

That may be true, but I’m pretty sure* the vast majority of people with suicidal thoughts don’t end up committing suicide. If you commit suicide in a dramatic physical way like shooting yourself or chucking yourself off a bridge, in that particular moment you’re probably pretty committed to getting yourself dead.
