There just isn’t a moral or logistical argument one can make in favor of it. It’s not a deterrent, it costs astronomically more tax dollars than just jailing prisoners for life, there is no way to guarantee that only the guilty suffer capital punishment... the only argument in favor is straight up bloodlust.

Agreed. I´m a 30something, I lost a parent as a teen and I went the denial and avoidance route too. It never occurred to anyone that my siblings and I might need therapy until one of us fell apart in dramatic fashion years later.

You’d be surprised. I had to beg my mom for therapy after my dad was killed and even then she was more worried about how my going made her look. I was 13.
