Yup, GSUSA was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, who was a friend of Baden-Powell's sister. BSA was founded in 1910 under guidance from Baden-Powell.

In the US Boy Scouts (BSA) and Girl Scouts (GSUSA) are two totally separate and distinct organizations. GSUSA is trans inclusive. BSA is... terrible.

There's absolutely no indication in the article that the ex-boyfriend had been exposed to the syphilis. Nor is there any indication that she had not planned to use the county health department's anonymous notification system. You're making a lot of nasty assumptions based on zero evidence.

My students are required to bring (and reapply) sunscreen on field trips now. I've never worked in a school that didn't allow sunscreen.

This is one of my automatic rage buttons. Parents can not babysit their own children.

It doesn't help that many places in the US are named after places in the UK but don't necessarily use the British pronunciation.

Absolutely! I'm overdue and I've gotten all my care from midwives. I'm not necessarily planning on an epidural but I'm not ruling it out. I'm gonna see how it goes. There are OBs available if something goes south and I need one.

You can actually already get a burrito wrapped in a quesadilla from Chipotle. It's all my (eleven year old) students talked about for weeks this spring. One of them write perry about it. It is also called a quesarito.

A Pea in the Pod as sells $250 maternity jeans. That are badly made. I scoffed out loud when I saw their prices. Almost of all maternity clothes are a racket but Pea in the Pod is ridiculous.

This absolutely happens but it seems to vary tremendously by practice and hospital. There are plenty of providers who would never dream of doing such a thing just like there are plenty that do it as SOP. Anecdotally, it has happened more to my friends in the Mid West than on the East Coast but I also don't know anyone

When people find out my father died of lung cancer they almost always ask me if he was a smoker. It's as if they think that if he was a smoker then losing him as a kid isn't as big a deal. (And no, he wasn't but I hate saying that, too because I feel like it legitimizes the question.)

Breast cancer isn't even the cancer that kills the most women. But lung cancer doesn't sell pink knick knacks.

I'm sort of jealous that you're from MA and think that. I am related to several really racist Democrats from MA.

The Catholic Church actively funds, advocates for, and teaches misogyny. I'm not advocating for outlawing religion but let's not pretend that the Catholic Church isn't an intrinsically misogynists institution that actively makes the world a worse place.

Just cause fundies are nuts too doesn't mean Catholics aren't Christian.

I don't think it's simply budget issues. The kits haven't been made a priority. The budget issues are real but the fact that nobody cared or noticed until recently is the bigger problem. Without the attitude that the evidence was unimportant it wouldn't be an issue.

At least they're trying to get the backlog addressed in Texas. In most states you can't even find out if there is one.

I have never heard of a single other circumstance where a victim is asked to pay for the collection of evidence. Rape is special, apparently. In all other cases tax dollars pay for the collection and analysis of evidence.

Plenty of women who are related to powerful Republicans get raped. How many of them do you think tell their families? Nobody wants daddy to tell them they were asking for it.

Just remember that there are failed adoptions and it's not helpful for people to take those kids in if they are ill-prepared to meet their needs. :)
