Wow, critics sure are out of touch with mainstream taste! Let’s go check out what they thought of last year’s top ten box office films and see how crazy out of touch they are!
It’s quietly driving me mad as well. You’re not alone.
I have no idea whether you’re right or wrong, but I do feel obliged to inform you that Orville bros invading every Discovery-related thread to preach their gospel are extremely obnoxious, and not making me any more likely to watch that show.
Seriously, can someone less emotional and maybe a little more objective start reviewing Discovery? You know, someone who can actually discuss pros and cons of an episode without having a meltdown? Maybe a review like this - https://www.avclub.com/burnham-meets-the-emperor-and-discovery-finds-a-new-gro-1822278505
Look to Marvel for the road map to the Star Wars movies. How long did it take Marvel to really get weird?
Red Letter Media’s fanbase always agrees with them. Everyone I know who is a faithful RLM viewer appears to be incapable of having an opinion about a movie that isn’t RLM’s opinion verbatim.
It’s totally possible to love both, FWIW. JJ has said nothing but positive things about TLJ.
My favorite part of the complaints is that they totally ignore every Star Wars movie as if the franchise hadn’t always made up rules on the fly (to its benefit).
Two words: The Leftovers.
Yeah, so where is Fringe? That was a fantastic genre show that easily bests half of this list. Man, John Noble as Walter and Anna Torv as Agent Dunham were acting GOLD.
Stranger Things, but no The Leftovers, Fargo, Mr. Robot, or Twin Peaks? Bummer, man.
Legion is better than Jessica Jones and Westworld. I wouldn’t argue for it to be #1 since it has only had one season so far, but it deserves to be on this list.
How about trying this on for size... “we’ve done two trilogies about someone who came from humble beginnings but had a big family secret, why don’t we make this desert dwelling orphan just an orphan”
Tyson irritates too many people to be Sagan’s heir. Same goes for Bill Nye. Sagan was never as frelling petty as they can be.
While the movie had about a million problems, the more the critics rail against it, the more people are going to watch it just to see how bad it is. Those people will see that the movie takes itself a little too seriously at points, but is mostly watchable, and are going to think “Why on earth do all the critics want…
I get that they tried to touch on societal and racial issues but if you just watch it as an action movie and not something smarter and don’t read too much into things it’s fun to watch.
A fair amount of the criticism has been two-dimensional and retro, so why shouldn’t the movie itself join in on the fun?
I plan on watching less nerd TV and reading more nerd books. I have the latest Expanse and John Dies At The End books and I’ve made so little time for them because a cool new series drops every week.
“...it shows how our fandom, for all its differences, isn’t that changed in substance from what came before.”
