Unless you know someone, or recognize a face from somewhere, “dropping in” on anyone’s cookout is pretty much a no go, I’d think.

Being half black I always find myself in situations like this whether I’m visiting the black side or the white side of the family. I think the key to success is to learn to make a “fresh vegetarian dish” (for the white folks) and a “southern style slaw” (for the black folks).
