Legit freaking out! SOR2 is is legit in my top 5 games, I just never get bored of it and still play it with my cousin.
As an American, I find this both accurate and hysterical. I’m usually in London 3 or 4 times a year and my British colleagues range from amused to annoyed with how I “speak” English. ;)
It doesn’t make me chuckle on its own, but in the context of appearing on a sign in a busy part of Tokyo, where the business in question obviously had NO IDEA what it meant? That’s pretty funny, if you’ve ever been to Japan.
“Engrish” exists as a concept for a reason, and a sign that says “KKK witches” is so out…
Well, for one thing, this is not an “anime titty game” — this title is rated T, and has virtually no nudity and little content that could even be considered sexual in nature. This is not Akiba’s Trip, this is Akiba’s Beat — a pure social satire JRPG without the fanservice.
Hey. This is the Tom Lipschultz in question. As a general comment, I’d like to suggest that people read the entire discussion on our forums before forming any sort of judgment here.
It’s our job to make changes, yes. But not specifically for the purpose of sanitizing content. People who play these games know that they’re Japanese (especially in a game like this), and know to interpret what they’re seeing from a Japanese perspective. For someone to actually be offended by the presence of a sign…
A sign in the original Japanese version of the game read “KKK witches,” a play on the phrase.
Acquire wrote it as “KKK” without intending to make a reference to the American KKK, changing it from that is actually a good localization choice. To keep it “KKK” would have introduced a meaning to the phrase that wasn’t in the original language and that the original developers didn’t intend.
To some people this kind of thing is a hill to stand on, for others, it doesn’t mean jack shit.
Review Bombing is easy to fix. If you get a refund your review goes bye bye. Trading Cards is easy. If you sell or trade a card within that refund period it tells you “hey if you sell this you can’t get a refund”. If you click yes, you cannot refund. If you return a game, you lose cards associated with it that show…
My 2GB 770 still runs everything on damn near max. If you’re selective, with most games you can gain back 10-15fps by limiting features that are hardly noticeable. I keep texture quality, lighting and anisotropic filtering at max, but get choosy with other luxuries.
Man, PC gaming can get frustrating at times. I’ve had a 770 (albeit a 4gb one) for just over a year now...when I bought it, it was the best GPU I could get for under $500...it was supposed to be plenty for playing games on high, at least. Now, hardly a year later, and if I want 60FPS I’m relegated to medium?
Also, much of the backlash was due to the fact that the Tomb Raider franchise as always been a PlayStation staple. The firtst three games, were console exclusive to the PS1. It would be like Halo V becoming a PS4 exclusive.
Dang. Thanks. :(
Thank you for the link. This is what I was looking for.
Not one of those reasons cited for region locking is a good thing. They are all protecting some kind of obscure value that corporations made up for their own benefit, and some of them are outright horrible (price discrimination, censorship). Besides, why are you defending region locking? Does it help you in some way?
It would be smarter to take off region locking as more people are willing to spend $30 on an import than $200+ on a console and importing games.
