Djokovic won the first set, Federer won the second set. The fact that both sets went to tiebreaks with each of them winning one each shows that they were definitely very tightly contested.

Yes. And Serena and Venus Williams belonged to S. Compton Country Club when they were growing up. LOL

Agreed. The visible toll it takes on Nadal was always going to catch up to him. Federer glides on the court more than anyone I’ve ever seen. He may not be able to keep up with those at the very top anymore, but he’s still competing with them.

It’s sadder watching Nadal.

I originally read this as she survived but also killed her husband. O.o

Kind of like how you constantly berate online strangers who dare point out inconsistencies in your copy/paste jobs & frequently invite them to “die in a fire,” “fuck [themselves] with a rake” or “get cancer” but presumably rein in the twerpitude among friends/acquaintances?!

He’s only so successful because he’s built like a man.

I don’t know. If he seemed despondent about his own loss of ability, I think that would be very sad. But, I find something inspiring about the grace with which he handles it. He knows he’s no longer in his prime, but he still seems to enjoy what he does and accepts that this is who he is, now.

“Heartbreaking” is a pretty lazy media narrative to throw out there - Fed might lose a little sleep over the loss (especially not capitalizing in the first set) and be disappointed he couldn’t stick with Nole during the final two sets. I would think last year’s loss was more painful as he had Nole clearly on the ropes

She was an innocent little lamb with a PhD. She couldn’t have been aware of anything going on outside her immediate experience. Happens all the time

That was when a frustrated Novak tried to rip his shirt, but failed and had to take it off the old fashioned way. Shoutouts to Uniqlo™!

The best thing I’ve heard so far from the pro-Confederate flag bunch is last night on All Things Considered/NPR. The reporter was interviewing protesters outside the State Capital when it was announced that Gov. Haley had signed the bill and the flag was coming down, and one man stated, “next thing they’re going to do

So businesses shouldn’t be punished when they do something wrong because employees might be hurt? Do you feel the same way when restaurants violate health codes and are shut down until they pass inpection ? The waiters aren’t earning tips when the place is closed, after all. What about an amusement park that is found

For any who think this is a First Amendment issue:

I get that there needed to be some kind of punishment, but $135000? That’s just ridiculous and only adds fuel to the bigots who are using them as icons. And who gets all that money?

Let different sports be different. I love a raucous crowd, but I much prefer quiet to tinny arena-manufactured noise. You used to be able to cheer at an NBA game but now what’s the point? Arenas play instrumentals while the ball is in play, then the PA really goes ballistic when it’s not. All I can do is sit back and

First of all, it’s not unranked but unseeded. Secondly, after a number of incidents when a very emotional and at times frenzied crowd overreacted to shots played during a rally, Serena rightly asked the umpire to caution the crowd against such outbursts during points. It was then that the crowd booed her. And it was

Watson isn’t unranked. She’s unseeded. She’s currently ranked 59.
