Speedy was a hispanic hero for kids that felt they were not represented in cartoons. He’s heavily celebrated in those countries. I actually think speedy Gonzalez is enjoyed by many Hispanic individuals. My (Mexican) husband enjoyed him, as did his family, and has no qualms showing it to our Hispanic son.

Because she played into a racist stereotype about the innocent white girl vs the sexually agressive black man. People wouldn’t be nearly as upset if she had said “hey, that’s not quite what I agreed to.”

What I don’t get, is that she has two enormous apartments in NYC - so she is in one and the kids or her ‘people’ in the other? So many questions. And isn’t Lola studying in Detroit and Rocco with his dad in London most of the time? I know this without googling, which is worrying in itself.

It’s not that the public is reprimanding her for reacting negatively to Kanye’s verse (we kind of actually celebrated her for doing just that in the Grammy’s). People are mad because she lied about not knowing about the song or its content when, in fact, she heard it and gave Kanye her verbal approval.

From what it sounds like, she may never be there, but her kids and her “people” are there when she, the official resident, isn’t. And if her oldest kid is 20, that could well mean comings and goings and parties that aren’t very neighborly.

I went to a Golden Corral for the first time and liked it. I was with a bunch of 8th graders. Some of them were incredibly whiny because they were overtired. Overall, it was nice.

She was once also a great singer. I don’t know what Jive Records did to her. Her voice has never recovered and it’s a damned shame.
