Combustion chamber temperatures are controlled to a great extent by the air fuel mixture. Especially the piston. Many high strung engines can melt pistons from incorrect air fuel ratios.

And in general, most decel pops are just caused by the fuel mixture going extremely lean, allowing fresh air into the exhaust which then ignites unburned fuel. Almost every engine does it, but they surpress it in the muffler, by going rich during decel or by turning the injectors off when coasting.

Many OEMs just cut the injectors off during decel to prevent popping. My Tacoma, Ranger and Nissan Sentra all did it. You can feel and hear when the injectors turn off
