Eye strain is not an issue with the Rift. Because of the lenses, youre focusing to infinity, not to an inch. There are many other issues though that will hopefully be resolved in the future.

You are right. Next thing they'll want to strap speakers next to our ears! Just imagine it, they'd call them headspeakers or headphones, something like that. We all don't want that and because of that nobody should have it because other people can't like what we don't like.

I don't think the rift will replace monitors any more than headphones replaced 5.1 surround sound speakers. I do think something like this will give a superior experience for 3d and immersion but I don't see traditional monitors or TVs going away anytime soon.

The Rift has replaceable lenses for people with prescription glasses. Also, you don't have to wish ill on the Rift. Everyone has their preference and the people who make the things we use know that. The monitor will never go away just because an alternative becomes successful.
