I’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077 a lot and I’m completely enamored with their designer’s take on retrofuturistic design. The cars in game are split between modern-day concept cars and 1980s concept cars. It’s hard to pick just one, but below are a few of my favorites.

We’re well into the Txx sequences now, but these always gave me a light chuckle. They wouldn’t let my buddy get LONGBOI for his Jetta Sport Wagon, yet we have thousands of plates that say CUM on them.

How do these even work? 

Mk4 Volkswagen hood latches. Perhaps they still use a similar design today, but I personally experienced this elaborate mess with my 2005 Golf TDI.

Germans certainly take pride in their engineering - they just don’t know when to stop engineering!

I have a 968 with very similar handles. I love the weight of the release latch, and the sound it makes during opening and closing the door is deeply satisfying. 

This was such a brilliant design detail and something I’d wouldn’t have necessarily expected from Lincoln. 

That’s good to know. I have a Volvo V90 T5, so just a turbocharged 4-cylinder with FWD. No issues in 77k miles other than a check-engine light that was reset. I’m hoping this “simpler” drivetrain proves to be that much more reliable. 

I love the idea of Volvo’s twin-charged engines, but I have to wonder how such a complex engine will hold up over time, and how easy they’ll be to get into & work on.

With that in mind, perhaps I’m less annoyed at her and more annoyed that this is how the game works.

I was lucky enough to find a CPO V90 R-Design and I’m floored by its styling every time I walk out to it. Inside and out, it’s a beautifully finished car that’s simultaneously striking and subtle in a way that I rarely see on modern cars.

The Lamborghini Reventón’s fighter-jet gauges are the coolest things I've ever seen. I wonder how practical they are in real-world driving, but seeing them in action is pure sci-fi and one of the most unique expressions of LCD gauge face design.
