Well, 2001, like all of Kubrick's films, was essentially an independent film. He raised his own funding with his brother in law (although, given the cost of this one at the time, MGM did kick in some $$, a different arrangement, from the deal he had at Warner).

The covers of the Blish adaptations lured me in when I was nine, and I continued reading "Star Trek" books regularly until I was in my twenties. As a director, Shyamalan is one of the best working today. His visual sense, blocking, staging, work with actors and sense of pacing are all top notch - he's truly talented. In this regard, it's unfair for people to go on about how horrible he is.
Aww, thanks. The only difficult situations we encountered due to their relationship was because of others on the outside (including some of their family members), but I think it made us all stronger.
