You don’t understand how politics works. Republicans are the dopes who look on indifferently as liberal policies cause economic rancor. Democrats come in two stripes: 1. make the problem worse 2. make the problems slightly better

I’m not sure if you’re speaking of US politics or Canadian politics, but US policy revolves around the military.

Our government is much smaller as a percentage of GDP than other OECD nations. Comparatively speaking, restraining government revenue to 18% of GDP is a relatively limited-government position.
