You are both entitled to your own opinions, but neither of you are entitled to your own facts.

i’m sick of the pious using their imaginary friends as excuses for anything.

She described herself as someone who looks at issues from a distance and doesn’t get “caught up in this emotional heated discussion about nationalism or environmentalism.

Or you’ll just annoy the middle of the debate (the people you need to get on your side) to the point where they’ll elect an orange idiot just because he doesn’t tell you what you can drink with.

I mean, it isn’t really a lie. Straws are bad. They aren’t as bad as other things, but you can say that about anything. There’s always a worse thing. If we can stop using straws, sure, that might not be as good as if we stopped buying things with packaging, or all carried around our own cups or forks or something, or

It’s not a lie; you just want folks to focus on other (“bigger”) things. Cool, best of luck. But don’t pretend people realizing they’re probably using a “disposable” item frivolously is a bad thing, nor that they are having their eyes opened if only a wee little bit.

When Seattle initiated the ban on single-use disposable plastic straws, many people publicly made this point in response. Two days later, the city added an exception allowing businesses to carry single-use disposable plastic straws for people who need them because of medical or physical conditions. I would imagine it

Actually, straws can be made of biodegradable materials like waxed paper and wood and so forth. So not exactly true.

Exactly. The entire point of starting with something like straws is that it’s easy to stop using them or replace them with a different type. Once people experience how easy it is, then they won’t be as resistant to eliminating other types of disposable plastic products. Nobody is claiming that the ocean will be 100%

This is asinine.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Straws may be symbolic, but it’s surprised me how many friends/acquaintances I’ve come across that have latched onto it.  The more we think about the consequences of packaging and “disposable” plastic, the better off we’ll be.

I don’t believe in astrology. But, there’s something about Mercury in retrograde that has me thinking...

So.... nothing?

No worries as I don’t respect the Pope at all. Similar to the British monarchy, there’s a difference between acting progressive and being progressive. The Pope is acting progressive in the hopes he’ll alleviate those declining numbers. He’s acting in a certain way for self-preservation and no other reason.

Well, your ‘argument’ on the otherhand is stunning in its brio. What argument would you like? There are many to counter his (and your) idiocy. Nothing he says makes any historical or contemporary sense. There was no time in history when men who were poor AND socially inept AND unattractive (by their own wacked-out

Also, it’s NOT valuable.

Conventional, because I’m not an idiot.

Says the one who called synthetic pesticides as worse than organic ones. Thats pure fear mongering and piles of cow manure.

You left out my two favorites. I would of been more weary of the encyclopedic approach, if I were you.

For all intensive purposes this seems overblown too me. Weather you could or could not careless is being to the side of the point, is it not? People should just chillax a bit, irregardless of they’re overarking beliefs. Its silly to pretend like society is gonna loose our way just because people don’t speak goodly.
