where did you get the notion this is FWD? It looks Rear Engine RWD to me.

Judging by the schematic it looks like it is RWD via belt or chain driven by a mid-mounted differential.

Most likely that Volvo had a problem with the AWD and someone deleted the rear driveshaft, rendering it a FWD car.
