The rules for stealing horses are very strong. Part of this is history. Rustling was a major offense 100+ years ago and these laws are still on the book.

What I find weird is that the tech required for passable off-roading is long established by now. This really shouldn’t be an issue, should it?

My guess is that it happened at night in the dark. Since the theft was reported in the early morning hours per the link to the Sheriff’s Office. And if it was stolen, you bet the idiot was “driving it like he stole it”. 

My old Chevrolet Sprint would have climbed that little hill in reverse. Might have taken three tries, but that’s part of the fun.

Have shopped these quite a bit. The non-R versions seem to go for about tenish for decent drivers (though not as nice as this). Though not a screaming deal, given that is is an “R” and the miles and condition look very good I can give it a nice price.

I’m guessing this one got poked in the butt by some other vehicle, and it was easier to locate a later model rear bumper cover/lights/hatch and that’s also when the exhaust was slapped on.  The respray covers up the heinous amounts of body filler to try and make it look right.  Also, this explains the door…

I misread the beginning as $5,900 and thought, “Hm. Maybe.” Then I got to the end and saw the $9,500. Yeah, no. Always loved the look of these, but that’s the story with so many Italian cars-for-the-everyman. Love the look yet know the disastrous consequence of this rash decision. Heartbreak, regret, financial ruin.

Oh I agree. But smarter people have been tripped up by dumber things crossing borders. He should have known better, and the Germans are being, well, *German*. Ultimately, he will pay a bunch of money to make it go away, which he will not even notice.

I would say if you DON’T have a mere $5K sitting in the bank you are “below average”. Or rather young? Or have never bought real estate? And it is not that big of a deal to do a wire transfer from your bank to any bank in the world (outside of sanctioned countries, of course), though international wire transfers…
