I totally agree that this kind of issue should be covered by Jezebel, and really, if people don't like it, they don't have to read it. That being said, I think your response to the OP is unnecessarily harsh and does not remotely demonstrate this patience and understanding you're talking about. You could have easily…
Accutane isn't worth it for everyone but is def worth it for some. For me, it was worth it. But I did one round when I was 14 and they want me to do another round at 28 and at this age, it is so much less feasible than it was then. So much less. But if all the HORRIFYING side effects of accutane (believe me, it was an…
Yes to accutane! I had two courses of it (once in my late teens, and again a few years later). Horrible side effects: your acne gets worse before it gets better, your skin dries out really badly (my knuckles cracked and bled). And it was worth it. I had heard it's off the market in the US now. If so, I feel for…
Oh NOO! I had to go to England every other summer (British mom, erm, "mum"). I was about 12 or 13 when I discovered the Adrian Mole diaries. 25 years later, and I still have my rat-eared copies of the series. I took much solace in both the humor of her work. I envied him though, his brilliant lack of self-awareness…
I liked Adrian Mole, but what really touched me was her openly talking about her past including abortions (in the Guardian?). I was young enough that it was a 'wow' moment for me: a woman whose work I knew saying she had accessed medical help she needed and it wasn't the end of the world.
I have had several friends with cystic acne and they have all found relief with Accutane. Expensive, complicated for its side effects and interactions, but every one of said friends has said it was worth all the trouble. (And each friend had been through years of alternative and natural therapies, to no avail.)
Develop a thyroid disorder in your 30s. That'll stop the cystic acne. Not much help, I know but I tried everything and nothing really worked. Just getting older. It got better in my 30s and now non-exsistent in my 40s. Now it's just wrinkles and dry patches. Sigh.
You have to accept that people who love you sometimes just won't do what you want. And god knows a wedding is way down the list of important things in life. And with that, adieu.
As a medical student that literally just finished 6 hours of lectures and seminars about sensitivity when discussing end of life care, it is BEYOND appalling to see my fellow humans speak so flippantly about the death of this young woman. To judge and to pretend you understand her situation is monumentally insensitive…
I don't see it as a contradiction. Like another commenter just said, they're choosing to not be defined by their scars and skin conditions. If that makes any sense?
Reminds me of the crap I got in trouble for while I was a resident
The linked story from ThinkProgress is pretty good on this — false accusations are awfully common, it perpetuates the idea most rapes are stranger rapes, and so forth. I'm a longtime fan, even, but I think it would be great if combating some of these ideas was actually part of the mission of the show. That's probably…
I've loathed Joan Rivers since I was a wee lass back in the 60's.
Growing up, my friends and I always had a safety pin ready for when we traveled on public buses. Small yet effective.
Now I've become one of those middle-aged women who looks out for young women on public transportation. I can think of two times when I was traveling alone as a teenager when a nice older lady saved me from a creep.
How in the hell are we going to have a Champagne blunt finale now?
weed must prevail
Let this be a reminder that at the end of the day, as tough as New Yorkers are, we can come together as one to achieve common goals that are in the best interest of our children, our loved ones, and our city.
