I'll have to check it out...there are some really amazing movies from Native filmmakers, and it gives me a big sad that they don't get more visibility. I mean, why the fuck did Smoke Signals not get All The Awards when it came out?!

Thank you! :)
In general, this club seems to be run by people with a tenuous grasp of written English. Loadedly-ambiguous terms like "heels", "insure", seeming to be kinda vague on what a '20's theme even is...
I am also fine with dropping this whole thing. I think we're essentially just saying different things, and conversations like that drive me nuts pretty quickly...I really didn't make a huge kerfuffle over it, I just think the flyer is bad advertising - I did get irked at you quickly, which was unfair of me, but I do…
Christ, I can't believe I'm doing this, but my problem is that when you're advertising, you have to think about what people will assume or what you're implying, intentionally or not. I'm not offended by the flyer as a feminist, I'm offended because it's stupid, especially as they're going for some sort of "20's…
I love teh retro heels, myself, but I have a hell of a time finding them. I have huge feet, so buying actual vintage shoes isn't even an option for me. :(
They could have just said "no athletic shoes or sandals" and everything would have been fine. It was a dumb thing to put on a flier, since people will assume you mean "high heels" and get irked. I'm not sure why you're so invested in defending an ill-thought-out flier over semantics, but this is my final response to a…
True, but they say "no flats", and flats technically have heels (albeit very low heels), so I think it's safe to assume they meant high heels. Otherwise they contradicted themselves and are still idiots.
I could get behind a drag queen bar having a pretty strict dress code, and I think it would also have to mandate false eyelashes on everyone.
Plus, as you can see in the photo, "high heels" in the '20's were not nearly as punitive as most high heels now. This bar has no idea what the fuck they're talking about.
The dress is kinda neat, but her expression is super-weird...is she a zombie that decided to go formal?
As a fellow artist and writer who has Bipolar disorder, and has been in the hospital three times for attempted suicide, I couldn't agree with you more. My history of mental illness and my suicide attempts are certainly part of my life, and certainly inform my work, but to fetishize the act itself is awful. In fact,…
I kinda love Coco Rocha.
Hey, Melissa! I'm glad you beat cancer. I truly am, and I hope you are happy and well.
Yeah, he's crossed the line. When a small child gets injured because you're too busy with your game, things are not okay. I would guess he might be retreating into it a bit because he might be feeling stressed or helpless in other parts of his life (I'm spitballing on that, but that's often the case for my husband). I…
Can I recommend this a million times? That essay was amazing, and I want to hug Patton Oswalt.
I am also a non-applicator fan! I used OB for a long time, but I kinda love Moxie more now. They're just as great as OB, but the tins are awesome and they're almost weirdly inexpensive.
Seriously! I'm trying to not get too worked up about it, since you don't know how good a movie is until you see it...but I can't help it!
Plus the "young hot-shot pilot" character is a woman! I personally, as a woman, am so excited about Pacific Rim that my eyes water when I watch trailers.
Colonel Meow!!! I obey the frown!
