I think that you shouldn't phrase it as a question at all. It also doesn't have to be an order. State your need. "I need your help with this." There still is a choice because the other person may be doing something that needs to be done. "I can help you in 10 minutes after I send this message to my mother on

This. "I could use some help with the dishes." Works a lot better for us than ordering the other person around.

I deal with something similar. When we get ready in the morning if she has 20 minutes to put on makeup it takes 20 minutes. If she has 35 it takes 35.
