I don't think affordable has anything to do with it. If you are that hard up on money that you can't afford a 3DS @ $169.99 then you shouldn't be spending $129.99 on a 2DS.
At the very least, if you go into a store to buy a 2DS and some games, but forgo buying one 3DS game, you can buy a 3DS.
