Always looking to find ones that are. What year/model and what mileage are you running on them?

I feel like “risky” and “[used]BMW” always go hand in hand on modern BMWs.

I want to give you all the stars.

All these decades watching Star Trek why haven’t I thought of this?!

I agree. Especially since this was a high-end model for GM. It’s a slap in the face to those who bought them new. Like you said, this is a state inspection item how could they not still manufacture them or lease the rights of the part manufacture to a third party vendor? Oh right because GM doesn’t care. Sad.

It might also be that there is a large lead-time between the research phase and commercial use. Sometimes many years before we see them in action since there are so many moving parts.

I am not sure I understand cutting the AMG line-up by 75% when hybrid performance is a thing. Wouldn’t they just rely more on electric motors more in the AMG line-up to provide the same level of performance the consumer expects and a fraction of the emission?

The manual was never available for the 1998-2000 V70 R AWD in the US. Canada was lucky to get that version but here in the States we missed out. The V70 T5-M was a rocketship in comparison (and in its day). I enjoyed the T5 the most but it had a heavy flywheel and it wasn’t the most satisfying manual to drive. But I

Bring back boxy!

I’ve owned two of these, and a ‘98 V70 T5M (manual). Very good car. 236 bhp still scoots you onto the freeway quickly and these things are damn fine in New England winters. Good winter driver if you ask me! For that price, hard to go wrong. I still have a big soft spot for the 850/P1 V70s. Especially 1998, this year

That brown Dodge seems waaaay too good of shape to be street parked in BK for a long period of time. Must have been a semi-recent acquisition? Reminds me of Kramer’s car from Seinfeld. Not gonna lie, kinda want it.

Me too man. So much out there we don’t get but this and the S4 Avant really made me envious.

They were going to do that but then axed bringing it. Sigh.

Thanks Tom, another good article. I agree, those types of “Millionaire” buying advice articles are not based in reality. A family or needs something reliable and safe and what you would get for $6k in the rust belt is pretty depressing. (I’ve been doing that for years and I am DONE, getting a new Accord next year I

Thank you for looking at it from a Macro perspective! Agreed, the influx of used cars depends on a healthy new car market, otherwise the price of a used car sky-rockets.

How dare you speak ill of the soccer ball wheels!

Agreed. I lived in Los Angeles traffic for many years with a manual and I didn’t find it awful. In fact my right foot would ache after a while in an automatic in traffic, but the manual kept me from getting sleepy because I had something to do.

Winner winner, chicken dinner!

Bingo! Owner was running this car on a rather ... tight budget.

I was going to say NP with the recent repairs and maintenance. Its also clean, but taking off the cats... why? Is it really not fast enough to do that? I agree, just makes me feel more guilty driving it with that, especially since this was a car engineered to have emissions. CP because of the thousands it would take
