I have sort of stolen from Lainey here too — as when I posted that picture of Justin Bieber being "held back" from a fight by his bodyguard, and described it as showing a sulky toddler being placed into his carseat. I just find her observations about celebrities to be very good.

I agree on all counts.

Oh, definitely. I think it's best that people who are rushing to judge the situation do their best to inform themselves of all the reported facts, whether or not those facts support their view of events. I thought the Vanity Fair piece a little while back was excellent — not impartial, again, but thorough and

Many people have cited this here already, and many people have noted that it's written by a close friend of Woody Allen's who is (by his own admission) not impartial.

At this point, I know I'm not looking at this with an unbiased eye and may be reading something into nothing — but that poor girl's expression, and the way she's holding onto the rail and protecting her body with her arm, make my heart ache for her.

That's an interesting question, but I think it's a different issue. My post was about the public reaction to the allegations, which seem very, very different from the public reaction to other similar allegations that make the news. (It's not the best example for this specific point, but I remember that — in the Penn

Sigh. As soon as I posted this, I noticed all these typos and awkward phrases that I really want to edit now. And I can't find the "edit" option that I swear used to be here.

You are exactly right (on all these points), and I should have included that example as well — the way that some people needed to believe that Trayvon Martin was an absolute good, as if this were necessary for their belief that Zimmerman had acted wrongly.

I err on the side of believing her as well, but this does not end with me needing to subject Woody Allen to excessive vitriol or to express outrage that he continues to live his life. People hate ambiguity and so feel the need to pick sides, to demonize one person and valorize the other. Neither of these is necessary.

Many of the comment here and around the web just show how skillfully and completely Woody Allen (with his powerful P.R. team) was able to control the public discourse around these allegations when they surfaced 20 years ago. Somehow everyone accepted that Mia Farrow was a hysterical and vindictive spurned woman who

Love this picture. And your dog is adorable.

Robert Pattinson uses moisturizer now and is really satisfied with his new life.

And it is funny to their fellow white people. And probably one black person said it was ok.

Wow. Could I ask where in the country you are?

Since I can't "recommend" more than once, just wanted to add that this is perfect and awesome.

Honestly, that would explain so much about my cat.

I always assume there's some scientific reason for behaviors that are universal to a particular kind of animal — some evolutionary advantage — but I just can't imagine one for the paper-sitting thing. Does the tendency to sit on random pieces of paper somehow give cats a better chance of surviving in the wild?

I'd also really like to know why, in an otherwise empty room (or a room otherwise filled with warm fluffy cushions), a cat will insist on sitting on the piece of paper that someone left on the floor.

This song is awesome, and I love it.

Someone has probably already posted something like this, but this reminds me of the Nelson Mandela quote (which Obama quoted in his speech) about "a thousand slights, a thousand indignities and a thousand unremembered moments." I mean, I know it's not the same thing exactly, and some of these moments cause more
