I think three of the deaths were medical emergencies possibly unrelated to the riot. Not unexpected the a group that size that matches the pro-Trump demographic.

We can call them rioters. Protesting is when you gather in public to publicise your grievances. Rioting is when you invade an institution seeking to disrupt a legitimate process (See the Brooks Brothers Riot during the Florida recount, 2000).

Yesterday was like pretty much all of Afghanistan’s history going back to Alexander the Great (well, the calmer parts of it, anyway).  It’s the wrong whirlwind to try to ride, for Alexander, the British, the Soviets, or the U.S.

I agree that most aren’t armed. But those who are will be VERY armed, will be the ones most likely to seek out a confrontation, and the most “competent” at violence.

Reasonably compact dimensions, manual shift with low range, serious off-road capability. This reminds me a lot of the Suzuki Grand Vitara we had when we were posted in Haiti. It could go anywhere, even where the roads were basically rock piles.
