On the positive side: You can run authentic vintage plates on any historic vehicle (26 years or older) in Michigan. The blue plates started in 1983 so anything 1983-1995 is eligible.

I should clarify: I would respect that design on a car I would own as it is a good solution visually. On a loaner/rental it would be annoying.

This is the only thing about the Ecosport that impressed me. I would like to shake the hand of the employee who cared enough about that vehicle to put that much effort into disguising the handle.

A surprising number of boomers bought Miatas as weekend cars and put very few miles on them.  I think they’re people who would own Corvettes if they could afford them.
