Imola is difficult to pass on so all moves are “high-risk.” That is before we get into the fact that he was passing one of the best cars in the field with a Williams... so he doesn’t exactly have a ton of opportunities.

The Q3 miss was on an attempt to squeak through on the medium compound. Max was 7th in that session as well so it’s not like he was way off the pace. And you’re ignoring his spectacular drive from the back in Bahrain due to a car fault (so missing Q3 ended up not being relevant).
I’d encourage you to check out lap times if you think these cars are slow. Just looking at Road America, Indycar pole was a 1:45. On the IMSA side, GTD pole was 2:06.2, GTLM was 2:00.5 and DPI was 1:49.0.
To be honest, I would be more likely to watch without the ovals.
And old Bronco is great to look at. Actually driving though... you would regret that decision quickly.
It’s kind of disappointing that the parking lot is paved.
The lack of an airport connection has to be the dumbest decision I’ve seen. Almost everyone coming into Vegas would use it if it connected to the airport.
Engine position was probably driven by shifter position more than driveshaft length.
I feel like that is just a Lotus 7 issue. The concept of owning one sounds great as we picture a perfect day with the perfect road. Then you own it and realize that scenario happens a couple times a year... and the car isn’t great to drive outside of that narrow use case.
Ford (for whatever reason) talks about it publicly fairly often as well. I kind of don’t get it as it just reminds everyone of a screw up they had.
Tesla is focusing on a camera only system while everyone else is using LIDAR. Few believe they will ever be able to accomplish anything approaching level 4 or 5 using this system. This is before we get into the fact that we’re probably a decade away from anything but geofenced level 4 operation in the commercial…
Meanwhile, in Michigan.
That was something I noticed as well. I was always taught the same: Keep the wheel straight so that if you are rear ended, you will not be pushed into oncoming traffic.
You think a 22 year old can’t find a full time job giving them enough income to buy a 37k car?
A job?
Most OEMs have internal requirements that what the press drives is same spec as what the public gets. They may get a little extra attention / maintenance to make sure they are in spec but that’s it.
The problem compounds because few of us are wired to see our money double or triple in a few months and not think it’s due for a correction. I was an early TSLA investor but I hit the exit when they crossed into unjustifiable valuations... which occurred in about 2014.
I read that and thought it could have been better worded as well. Nothing wrong with speed or showboating in the proper venues.
I don’t disagree with much of that but one thing you missed mentioning is that the IMSA cars have downforce. The banking is a joke in them where a NASCAR is loose through it.
IMSA runs the Daytona banking in the rain.
