How in the world is nobody else noticing that the kid with the glasses is obviously your sweet baby brother and thirty under thirty media luminary Griffin McElroy?

If someone uses a wheelchair, avoid saying she is “wheelchair bound” or “confined to a wheelchair,” which “describe a person only in relationship to a piece of equipment.” Instead, use simply “someone who uses a wheelchair.”

It was not very long ago that I was excoriated for using PWD in a comment, and when I explained the concept of person-first descriptions, the trolling got worse. Glad to see you publishing this, so I can reference it when trolled on future comments in the kinjaverse. ;)

Also keep in mind that disabled people are not a monolith, and we don’t all agree on “the rules.” I know person-first language is considered the standard, but in the past year or so I’ve seen lots of people in the disabled community start to instead embrace disability-first language. I personally don’t care either

This is known as the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. The name comes from a german militant leftist group that one guy heard of for the first time and then heard about over and over and over in a short period.

I’m dyslexic but I dont really have any of the negative effects associated with it save god awful spelling ability and grammar, though I can read and write backwards which is neat. However I know quite a few people who still struggle with it and stuff like this does help. Honestly, it may seem silly to some but it

When in doubt, ask. And allow people to define themselves, if they choose. Obviously, that’s harder if you’re writing about a group instead of an individual person whom you could ask, but if someone chooses to describe themselves a certain way, then go with that.

I love the OpenDyslexic font! I was able to use it on a couple of articles at a newspaper I worked for. A neat thing about it, is that the characteristics that make it easier to read for people with dyslexia also make it easier to read for people without dyslexia.

It’s awesome that Overland has that option in it.

Some people (like me) like their desktops to be completely empty of icons.

You know what this sounds like? “There’s a simple solution to addiction and it’s not waiting for the government to step in. It’s to just stop being addicted.”

Are you manually downloading the files?  An app like this will download them automatically and delete them automatically.  Plus it will offer other features like organizing your podcasts, remembering what episodes you’ve listened to, letting you speed up playback, etc.

I don’t know that I’d necessarily consider bonds MTX, but yeah, OSRS is way lighter on MTX to the point of not having them at all (unless you consider bonds).

I used it for a long time before paying last year to get the extra functions. It’s the best podcast client I’ve used in years. I’ve tried Google Podcasts, Spotify’s lame implementation, but this one is by far my favorite. Especially the way it has the custom filter “folders” and the strong integration into Google

For me it’s the organization, silence trimming, and volume boosting. Text podcasts are much better while driving with the volume boost -- it’s actually a volume leveling feature, despite its name.

I’ve had this app for like 3 years, I love it

...I finally broke down and paid the $4 two days ago. Not sure how I feel about this.

The real news is that Twitch is either willing to go along with their little incel crusade or so stupid as to think they can still rely on crowdsourced moderation in the Year of Our Botnet 2019.

Everyone loves an a la carte model for content—see Netflix, et al—where you can just pay a single reasonable monthly fee for unlimited access”
