Your concern is worthy, but its not entirely black and white: first of all, a lot of the money is in things such as stock options instead of cash. Selling that stock is always an option, but doing so can spook investors and thus quickly damage the worth of the remaining stock.

The primary reason that GoT is so heavily torrented is because HBO does not make it available legally in many parts of the world, while also making it impossible to get without a cable subscription in others.
