You’re right, but wouldn’t the insurance policy still be for less than the #1 overall pick’s rookie contract? I still think it’s better to go to the Browns than stay in school.

They should have called this matchup the QB Who Acts Like a Petulant Child Bowl.

On the other hand, if he stays in school he faces a small chance of suffering a career-ending injury, or just a garden-variety injury that drops his draft stock. He could also play poorly and take himself from a first overall pick to a mid-rounder.

You also need singles if you want to tip $2-4 for anything.

I don’t think I have ever encountered an elevator operator, but if I did, sorry, not tipping.

A five-game winning streak should have been totally predictable, since it’s the worst possible thing that can happen for them right now.

If you’re going to put a member of the Bears coaching staff in an elf hat, shouldn’t it be Dowell Loggains since he’s just about elf height?

Yes! And “Apple Barb” is the perfect description of her.

So the eventual winners of these pools, who freely chose to gamble their money knowing the odds, will now not get paid because the feds seized everything and shut it down.

I’m a Bears fan. Honestly, I think at this point the Browns have a brighter future.

Because even at #1 overall, drafting a QB is at best a 50/50 proposition. If you don’t like any of the QBs in the draft that much, why take one? (Plus, taking a QB when you don’t have a decent supporting cast around him is a great way to doom a guy who might have been pretty good).

Yup. If a dirty hit during the course of a football play is worth a 1-game suspension (and I don’t necessarily disagree with that), Gronk ought to be out for the rest of the year including the playoffs.

All the handwringing about admittedly unsportsmanlike hits like the one Smith-Schuster put on Burfict ignores the fact that the single most severe injury last night was Shazier’s, and nobody was playing dirty on that hit. It was one of the worst possible outcomes on a totally routine play that cannot be taken out of

Maybe because Madden is a think-outside-the-box kind of manager, Otani and his people think he’ll have a better chance of actually getting to both hit and pitch?

And the Bears still lost. On nothing but Robbie Gould field goals. Poetic justice.

Oh, Kaepernick is so much better than Glennon, and would probably have been cheaper too. I’m in favor of letting Mitch start this year though because I don’t think sitting on the bench is worth much.

Yeah, even the backups get hardly any practice reps. That’s really the problem; only the starter gets valuable reps both in and between games. Adding more roster spots for guys to hold clipboards/run the scout team won’t help them get better.

He’s a rookie QB who’s looked mostly okay with the worst receivers in the league. Not saying Trubisky is great or that he will be, but it’s absurd to say Kaepernick should be starting ahead of him.

You don’t rack up a ton of losses for one team without being at least an average QB. Football Outsiders just ran an article listing the QBs with the most losses for one team and it’s largely a list of great QBs.

I remember when Fox was hired being so relieved that, whatever level of success the Bears might or might not achieve, they at least had a competent, respectable coach after the disaster that was Marc Trestman.
