No, they were going over budget. The last four scripts had to be rewritten to keep things within the budget that HBO agreed to put up.

There's an article out there about the de-aging process that they did for that shot of the young Hopkins. (Google it; it came out last week. Sorry, forgot where I read it.) Basically, it's CG pasted over another actor's face standing in for the character.

They could say he was fired, and logically we'd accept it.

Remember the boy robot in episode 2 who tagged along with Ford? There's the fan theory that boy was in the image of Ford as a child.

It was like Brooker couldn't decide which twist end to use, so why not all of them?

The characters and premise for Episode 6, the 90-minute one, felt suspiciously like a back-door pilot that Brooker may want to continue as a series. So I kind of ding it for this, because I feel it's lame when producers/networks do this (set up a pilot in an already established series).

One thing I really liked about this episode was that it was obviously the cheapest to produce compared to the other 5 this season, and yet was just as effective dramatically as many of them.

The thing about Z Nation is if the viewer regards what they're watching seriously all the time, they're bound to be disappointed sometimes, because the writers have never taken their own show too seriously — just like old-school zombie B movies. This episode was certainly an example of going into the fun,

SPOILERS (but I want to share my thoughts with those who have seen this episode):

Too many twists. So was all the augmented reality stuff that the guy saw, beginning with the gopher, not "real" at all? What a waste of time then if everything he experienced was just in his head.

Misspelled "creepy" as "stupid".

Butch is the only original character created for this show who I think has the potential to be brought into the DC comics (like what happened with Harley, who started in the animated series first). I think the producers hoped that Fish would become their original character contribution to the Batman comics canon, but

Barnes becomes the Batman villain Humpty Dumpty?

I think there are several creative ways they could work around not directly referencing specific events and elements introduced in AoD. For example, it could be revealed later in the show that Ash forgot that he was sent back in time and returned to the present. Such a mind wipe could be a factor in a story arc.

As I pointed out in my post (which I wrote not aware of yours), I agree. I highly suspect the writing of this episode had to be cobbled together quickly or the assigned writer failed to put enough "meat" into the plot. Thus, the editing had to pad the running time out visually… such as overly detailed sequences of 10K

With all due respect, I think you're reading too much into this episode with the Murphy = Trump analogy. Most of this season was written and shot in early spring.

I am baffled — am I the only person here who felt like the editing and plotting of this episode was drawn out? It really feels like they wound up with 30-minute script that had to be stretched out with unnecessarily long running shots and lots of extraneous footage put in. The result is that this episode felt long and

Fish was a character created for this series, and I wondered if the producers hoped that she would become such a fan favorite that she would become written into the comic books. (This is what happened with Harley, who debut back in the Batman Animated Series.)

Oddly enough, I found myself nearly on the verge of tears when Oswald realized he won the election fair and square — that a majority of Gothamnites wanted him as their next mayor, and the joy he felt from that. Man, never thought THIS show would give me feels like that, because everything is silly as hell!

In all seriousness, the FX and make-up people working on this series deserve Emmy awards. Other than for the unbelievable grossness of this episode, the monster designs and makeup throughout this series have been excellent.
