In the cartoon there is not really much of a reason. In our comic book Jerrica is a talented singer and songwriter but she suffers from crippling stage fright.

I’m obviously biased, but I agree. Jem and Jerrica are wildly different heights (at a minimum - some of their physical similarities depends a bit on artist interpretation obviously) when it comes to physical differences AND Jem and Jerrica are often literally in the same place at the same time thanks to the Hologram…
