I live in a midwestern town where the parochial schools pretty much eat up much of the local talent and money. Where I grew up, athletics was the only way you met kids from neighboring towns or municipalities and it was done on a relatively equal footing, but the parochial paradigm there was also nonexistent.

All true - good post - but it’s worth looking at that person’s post history (and googling the address they’re using as their name) before assuming they’re arguing in good faith.

I think that would be true if every district looked like Waters’ or every state looked like California, but the ones that need to be won don’t look like that at all (if they did, they wouldn’t need to be won after all but you get my point).
