The m20b27 is a pretty decent motor for what it is. That said I have an 325e with a m20b25 swapped in but I have driven a friends 325es and it's not too bad.

Yeah this has to be an error. Even the much more thirsty m20b25 rarely gets as low as a 16mpg average.

BMW m20b27 getting 16mpg? Where did you find this data? From every source I have found it gets 25-28mpg. This is the motor from the e30 325e and e28 528e. This was the fuel (e)fficient motor offered in each model range.
