Over several days/weeks tell her all about the car. Bring her to the dealership/the seller of the car and bring her on a test drive or at least let her see you go on one and how happy you are. Later sadly tell her you wont get it because its not responsible and you should save for your future together. If she cares…

I realize that but when most car companies try to make things in the lest expensive way (esp. in the early '90s) its pretty impressive to see one say "you know what; gold is one of the best heat reflectors. Lets just go for it"

I think no one mentioned it because it is certainly not forgotten. Just consider how often it is mentioned on Jalopnik and how many videogames it is in. Not to mention it was featured on TopGear not all that long ago.
