I read that as M-B having fewer trim levels in dealer stock, but you could special order. Theoretically they can do whatever you want to do to your Maybach, it’ll just cost you.

Technically, isn’t that just a shorthand for a battery plant with > 1GWh annual capacity?

So you mean, intensely drive the car for two weeks, and only two weeks, every year?

Does the OBD2 reader stay on, like for “discounted” insurance, or is it “read code at inspection station annually” like they already do for emissions? The latter is probably the simplest way to implement something like this for privacy concerns, though some unscrupulous person can probably reflash with lower miles?

Traumatic was riding a city bus to school because the school district had gone bankrupt years prior and decided they could only afford official yellow buses for special needs children.

There IS one universal fast charging port, and it’s called CCS. Tesla drivers can carry around their dongles if they want to charge at a non-Tesla station.

Or active duty for professional Uber/Lyft/Instacart drivers? Low per mile costs and fast refill speeds have made them a favorite for professional drivers.

Even better: it’s VW AG oneer :p

They can bill road tax easily from the year-on-year odometer reading at the annual inspection. Are people going to reflash the ECU and roll back the odometer? Sure, but this is the easiest and least intrusive way to do a road tax.

It’s about the same price as a bus pass, for people to get to jobs that aren’t transit accessible, who can’t afford the downtime of having a broken shitbox.

Since it’s about manufacturer loyalty, they probably all paid more and got a Sierra.

Isn’t there some guideline as to what needs to remain original in order to retain the same VIN? Like in historical architecture, removal of X% of the original structure makes it a demolition?

This sounds like they’re already laid the groundwork for Cherokee-> Latitude and Grand Cherokee -> Laredo, and they’re doing this dance with the Cherokee nation for cred. Great, cuz I think there’s a bunch of people who would consider Jeeps but go to Subaru because of the perceived bias of the owner population.

How well do the HVAC controls work with gloves on?

To be fair, all the networks have some work to do for stuff not along a major I-x5/I-x0 interstate, so if you’re in for a backroads cross country trip that’s still not feasible yet.

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy around planned obsolescence. In a propane tank swap scenario, you’re paying for the delivery of gas, and the tank itself is negligible in cost. In a battery, you’ve paying for a lifespan cycle of charge/discharge, and the cost of the charge is a small part of the equation. Switching

I swear on my life there’s a charger at the Reading Terminal Market garage. There are other chargers in Center City as well, they’re just usually behind parking lot paywalls. DCFCs are sprinkled around town, start with maybe getting PlugShare and looking around where you go regularly.

Using both networks really isn’t that big of a deal. It’s about as much of a hassle as carrying around both your Chevron and Shell rewards cards. People don’t usually restrict themselves to one brand of gas on a road trip, and shouldn’t restrict themselves to one charger brand as long as they’re all DCFC.

How appropriate. Peugeot going from a bipedal logo to a no-pedal logo. Self driving cars full steam ahead!

How much you wanna bet Jeep not backing down is exactly what their clientele is cheering and it’ll help their sales?
