The Lane museum is well worth a look - I was there in 2006. Here's a glimpse:
And one more believer to bid against him.
I wonder whether he could have shaved some more time off by having some of the folks running ahead of him carry fuel? Meet them at a rest stop, refuel pit-stop style, and off you go. Better than pulling into a station and finding the outside card machine is down, then waiting in line behind someone buying lottery…
At least it would offset the smell of the gasoline for a while.
I agree this was one of GM's best '70s designs, but they rusted just as well as a Vega. I can see paying $4500 for an unmolested original, but for one that's had a busy life and needs all kinds of nickel-and-dime-you-to-death details? $2500 and he should be glad to get it.

No kidding. Just now I tried to respond to a post and the damn thing went haywire. First it stuck the header image in the middle of the post and then the comment box hooked itself to my cursor and started floating around the screen with it; I couldn't break it loose until I refreshed the page. Sheesh.
You and me both. Most kids saved their money from their first job to buy a car - not me; that $700-something I saved up bought my first RCA Selectavision. The next $600 bought the cheapest Zenith 25" console. Then I paid another $110 to the video shop to rerig the VCR so it would scan fast forward... I didn't have to…
