Psychosis is a form of mental illness. When I took forensic psychology in college I distinctly remember our professor telling us that most people who will experience psychosis during their lives will just have one acute episode. For instance, as a result of infection (Meningitis! Yay!), an injury that they recover

“I don’t care about your crackpot theories as to how recovered memories are a sham”

Yeah. Again. I never said she lied.

Yeah. I don’t really care so much where they’re coming from. What they said is banal and, actually, problematic. And given the number of likes I’ve gotten, I think I succeeded in calling people’s attention to that fact.

Being positive about a situation that doesn’t warrant positivity isn’t constructive. It’s passive aggressive. The O.P. could have taken two seconds to google search the issue before declaring that everything would turn up roses.

Some people seek help, get help, have help forced on them and only get worse over the course of their lives. They deserve to have their existence acknowledged as well.

“The goal isn’t to “cure” mental illness or “recover” from it, but to manage it.”

Yeah. But O’Conner doesn’t have the mental illness equivalent of asthma. She has the mental illness equivalent of Lung cancer. Being positive is great, when its warranted. Its really not in this case.

I don’t know what you’re reading. O’Connor actually does have an extensive support system of close friends and family. Sometimes there just isn’t enough support in the world to tether someone to reality. I don’t think she has any hangers-on btw. Though I do think her ex was beyond irresponsible having children with

“Nobody ever who has mental issues ever gets back to a level of metal health where they are functioning in a way where theirs is a healthier life and they no longer stage multiple suicide attempts?”

Sinead O’Conner doesn’t have depression. So I don’t know what your point is.

Jesus Christ this is a condescending post. Sinead O’Conner has had 20 years of professional help. For many people mental illness is a life sentence. So your assertion that “it works” is both a lie and a slap in the face to people who aren’t going to ever permanently recover.

I’m a feminist who thinks Allen is probably innocent. Because I’ve dealt with the rape culture longer than most people posting on this site. And I actually understand the pitfalls of the “recovery movement”, which was overall a good thing but had some major, unintended, casualties. As weird as Allen is, I think Farrow

There is no way that dude’s a lawyer. See my last comment.

As someone raised by family law professionals, I don’t for a second believe you are a family law attorney. Because it is NOT virtually impossible to have parental rights terminated. Just difficult. And this is Mia Farrow we’re talking about. She had congress change adoption law so she could import more kids.

This. This comment right here is why I can’t take seriously people who “choose to believe Dylan Farrow.” You sound like “The Courage to Heal”. Doubt is not a form of collusion. Nor is doubt indicative of a confused perspective.

I know that you think you’re being a champion of the children. But you’re not. The truth is you’re undermining real abuse. Because you’re pathologizing domestic life, just like therapists did in the 1980s, which is what sparked the false memory crisis.

Yeah. That’s perfectly legal. Family members falling asleep on each others’ laps is perfectly legal.

I can think of a half dozen couples I know in real life whose relationship I find more disgusting than Allen’s and Soon Yi’s. And it still doesn’t make anything about those relationships illegal or suggest that anyone in them is capable of a crime. And honestly, while Allen and Soon Yi both seem like strange people,
