I believe that the MBP and the MBA will eventually merge and become one within the next 5 years.

Well in your opinion they paid to much.

By being a photo sharing site where you have friends that follow you and can comment on your pictures they are in direct competition with FB. Instagram most likely would have added future features that more directly compete with FB when they had a larger user base.

Facebook saw Instagram as direct competition that has a user base that was rapidly growing exponentially.
